SASC Academics

SASC Academic Program Mission Statement
The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) is committed to supporting the academic, personal, and professional aspirations of all students, with particular care for first generation students.ÌýOur courses are designed to support students in their first and second years of college, focusing on subjects that are traditionally considered challenging by campus standards. To enhance learning and engagement, we intentionally limit class sizes to 25 students or fewer, ensuring that students experience the rigor of these courses while benefiting from a collaborative, community-oriented environment.ÌýThe department also provides academic resources to support student learning and engagement beyond the classroom through our Study Hub space and Instructional Assistants program. Our goal is not only to help students succeed in their courses but also to foster long-term, meaningful connections among peers, staff, and faculty.
Student Leadership in the Classroom
Instructional Assistants (IAs) are undergraduate students in a SASC program whoÌýprovide peer support within a SASC course.ÌýIAs are students who have previously done well in a specific SASC course and are now positioned to help the next cohort of students succeed. IAs have a unique relationship to students and the curriculum, being located someplace between peer and professor.Ìý
IAs are a crucial part of our SASC classes.ÌýThe role of the IA is to provide additional support to faculty and students through smaller skills-based practices that enhance learning and personal growth outcomes.ÌýThey serve as an additional resource and advocates for students to deepen connections both to the material and the SASC community.Ìý
