An 80,000 word PhD thesis would take nineÌýhours to present. Our time limit?ÌýThreeÌýminutes.
Founded by the University of Queensland in 2008, theÌýÌýis an academic competition that cultivates students’ presentation and science communication skillsÌýby challenging them to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience after a few months of preparation.
The top three winners of the competition, which takes place annually in February,Ìýreceive prize money, with the first place winner getting $1,500 and a chance to represent the university at the regional competition.
The 2024-25 Three Minute Thesis final competition was held Feb. 13, 2025, at 4 p.m., in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom.
