Pomegranate – the tasty juice that lowers your blood pressure
The pomegranate originated in the middle east and has since spread to other parts of the world. Throughout the centuries it has been highly prized for its healing powers.
Modern day research shows that drinking just 2 ounces (~50 ml/0.5 dl) daily of the juice from this powerful fruit can lower your blood pressure. It works the same way as an ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor that expands your blood vessels so your heart gets more blood and oxygen. Without the unwanted side effects.
There are of course some additional benefits to be had if you eat the seeds as well but the juice works great.
Pomegranate can be a hassle to peel and get those lovely seeds out but there’s a trick to it that is explained in a good way here.
Be sure to check the label of the juice when you buy it so it actually is 100% pomegranate juice and not some other “juice-like” drink with just a little bit of real pomegranate in it and/or lots of added sugar to it.
At the end of the day, we’re all different and unique. Even though the research showed that after a year of daily pomegranate juice the systolic (higher number) pressure was reduced by as much as 12% it doesn’t mean it’s the optimal for you.
Be sure to measure your pressure as you do this so you can see your progress.
