10 best songs to lower your blood pressure
Music – it can lift you up and chill you out. No matter where you are in the world, music is there in some form or other.
Listening to music can actually lower your blood pressure too!
Research has found that listening for 25 minutes to Mozart or Strauss reduces your blood pressure and stabilises your heart rate.
Mozart was the most effective with a 4.7 mmHg reduction in systolic pressure (the high number), followed by Straus with a reduction of 3.7 mmHg. They also tested ABBA as a reference but there was no reduction in blood pressure there. (being Swedish, we still love ABBA and will keep listening to them)
There are of course many songs that have a really positive effect so without further ado here is a list of the 10 most relaxing songs.
(do avoid driving whilst listening to these amazing tunes as you will be at risk of relaxing so much that it could get dangerous)
- “Weightless,” by Marconi Union
- “Electra,” by Airstream
- “Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix),” by DJ Shah
- “Watermark,” by Enya
- “Strawberry Swing,” by Coldplay
- “Please Don’t Go,” by Barcelona
- “Pure Shores,” by All Saints
- “Someone Like You,” by Adele
- “Canzonetta Sull’aria,” by Mozart
- “We Can Fly,” by Rue du Soleil (Café Del Mar)
Interestingly enough the first song on the list by Marconi Union was actually developed and arranged together with sound therapists to achieve maximum relaxation. When testing the song, they achieved a stunning 65% increase in relaxation levels.
They borrowed from buddhist chants and coupled it with a rhythm that goes from 60 beats per minute down to 50 over the course of the song.
All we can say is – thank you Marconi Union! This has to be the most relaxing and enjoyable way of lowering your blood pressure.
Just take a seat in your favourite place, listen to the relaxing music and see those numbers drop.
