Jianmin Shao is Assistant Professor of Women and Gender Studies at the 91¸£ÀûÉç. Professor Shao holds a Ph.D. in Psychology with a Graduate Emphasis in Feminist Studies from the University of California, Irvine. Trained as a feminist ethnographer and psychologist, Professor Shao conducts research in the areas of Critical Health Studies, Cultural Psychology, Feminist Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, and China Studies.

Professor Shao’s current book project examines how identity-based interventions in China reproduce gendered vulnerabilities within already uneven geopolitical and sociohistorical contexts, which offers a relational analytic to rethink intersectionality and advocacy in an era of neoliberal globalization. Professor Shao’s work has appeared in Journal of Counseling Psychology, Psychology & Sexuality, among others.
