Outdoor Rock and Ice Climbing
Learn how to take your climbing out of the gym and into the mountains. Outdoor Pursuits offers a number of outdoor rock climbing and ice climbing courses to help you improve your skills and find your next adventure.
Top Rope Anchors
Hone your climbing skills in an advanced clinic that will focus on:
- Anchors
- Rappelling
- Outdoor climbing
This course will teach you what you need to know to take your love of climbing from the gym to the outdoors! Although not required, taking a lead clinic in our climbing gym is recommended as a pre-requisite to this course.

Climb Better Series
This four-week climbers' health series has been designed to optimize the physical, mental and emotional components of climbing through cross-training in other methodologies. Explore yoga, functional movement and strength training exercises and partner activities in addition to exercises which will improve coordination, quickness and agility. The course will culminate in a day of outdoor climbing at a local crag, with a guided warm up.
Course fee includes a 4-visit pass at the Rec Center Climbing gym, climbing equipment and transportation for the outdoor climbing day.

Climbing and Camping
Climb and camp with us at Staunton State Park! Participants will learn how to climb outside and spend a night camping under the stars.
The course fee includes transportation, food, climbing and camping equipment.

Outdoor Climbing
Spend a full day top rope climbing at a local crag. This course covers the basics of top rope climbing outdoors, including equipment, techniques and places to go. All equipment is included in the course fee. Transportation will be provided.
Participants must be able to hike with a 20 lb. pack up to two miles on rocky and variable terrain.
